I Woke As Birds Began To Wake

I woke as birds began to wake And looked unto the dawning skies, The scarlet clouds were tinged with gold And were so pleasing to my eyes. The sun then rose above the trees Then bathed the land with warmth and light, Revealing then the winter's ground That lay so still and frozen white. The frosted blades like diamonds shone And sparkled through those shadowed beams, Which held them in their captive arms Then melted like forgotten dreams. While webs of lace adorned the hedge The tears then fell unto the floor, From dusted twigs that then did yield Unto the onset of the thaw.
