What is modern poetry? , ask they often,
But what to say in answer to it?
Modern poetry is about modern life, culture and philosophy,
The city-bred urban people, townsmen,
Materialistic, mechanical and technical,
Talking about rampant urbanization and modernity,
City-life, artificiality, superficialtiy and hypocrisy,
Plazas, multicomplexes, skyscrappers,
Shopping malls, cyber cafes, airports and bus terminuses,
Metros and metropolitan and megacities.
Modern poetry is about the hollow and shallow men
And their love of materialism.
