Danger

While her hurried steps paced the emptied dark alley She heard distant footsteps following, getting nearer, nearer! As her heart throbbed in fear and dread, the thought to flee Quickly gripped her consciousness, oh- but where? She ran with every strength in her that she could muster Saw a crack in the wall by her left, a space to hide! Her gaunt frame slipped in easily as the steps became louder Just in time her body hid, squeezed further inside. She caught her breath afraid the sound of it pulsates As the steps reached her refuge, it stopped abruptly- The eerie silence seemed like an eternal wait for fate In fetal pose, she wished he'd go and leave as hastily. Then she saw him bend, look at her through a tiny crack! A gasp of terror shook her body like the touch of death Killer eyes stared straight into her very soul and back He tried to reach her, failed, and left with much regret. With one scornful snort he walked away disgruntled She waited for hours until a glimpse of morning light Ushered her release, ran safely to her brood there huddled Another perilous encounter with that alley cat at night.
