Sonnet 85: To Blind Jack

D David Wood David Wood

Blind Jack plays sorrowful tunes in the street On his old accordion so battered He begs pennies from all that he will meet His weathered face said nothing now mattered. A witness to poverty and despair He knew no other way to make a living He had no breaks in life which was unfair And now relied on people’s kind giving. Standing on the street corner all alone Playing to passers-by his sweet sounds For his lot in life you will not see him moan He ekes a living with only a few pounds. We have to be generous to those in need And have a kind heart to do a good deed.
