The Day

Slowly dawn breaks over a tired horizon As light casts away lingering shadows Of nights deep slumbers. The dawn sees two red kites gliding above Sleepy fields, slowly circling for an early Breakfast of somnolent mice. They look down on a village still clouded In sleep; with wisps of smoke coming from One or two tall chimneys. Silence still fills the air, a cat stalks the long Grass in competition with the red kites above. A dog barks at the coming dawn. One by one the village comes to life as the Sun climbs higher in the sky. The noise of A distant tractor working in a field. People begin to emerge to start another Day of toil or pleasure. The clock ticks, The hours pass, a page is turned. Slowly the sun begins to lose its warmth, And evening turns to twilight, soon nights Cape is cast and the village sleeps again.
