The Mirror

How dearly I look at you daily Day and night and now and again Of times untold come so artlessly Alike may be beautiful or ugly to be seen Indiscriminate as to age or sex you serve all lovingly Mute yet speak many things clean Honest not to go down brokenly Upon showing my looks precise and even Unless glass/face in you goes contrary Or sobbing out your love and pain Deceitfully as you hold me to your heart so closely I look at you but end up seeing mine I dive deep to find you but so sought futilely A face showing dullness or sheen Of all faces can't be seen looks like a flight of fancy In which love, romance, anger and anguish are cherished since then Through now until retrieved quietly Though seeing my face in your face serene I go out to face the world bravely or shyly Oh, my dear, can you remember baby face of mine That I long to see seems forgotten enduringly And that was pure and clean And let that be the only mirror in which I see my face eternally
