Cyril The Squirrel Is Back In Town!

A pigeon perched upon a pole! I watched him in my street! Content to stay there on the whole, So fluffy and so sweet! But when he saw another near, He swooped upon the roof, And then he made his feelings clear, Now bowing low as proof. The other pigeon paid no heed, And swiftly left him there, No time to chat, no time to breed, No time at all to spare. A bossy pigeon landed, too, And that first pigeon left, With no more chance to bill and coo, Now feeling quite bereft! He landed on the nearby pole, Above the dustbin lids. No more ambitious for love's goal Since his life hit the skids! I noticed as he departed, Cyril was back in town! Along the garden walls he darted, Tail flicking up and down! He then stared at the nearby pole, Before he leapt the gap, All my attention, then he stole, Applauding with a clap! He then ascended like before, Pulsating tail and all, Three feet, four feet and maybe more Without a single fall. Then suddenly, he swerved around, And clambered down again, Toward the dustbins he was bound, That's where he landed then. And down the gatepost vertically, Just like a giant mouse, He disappeared quite suddenly Beyond my neighbour's house! I always miss him when he's gone! It really makes me sad! And yet, of course, life carried on, Just like it always had. I'd love to see two squirrels come! TWO Cyrils would be nice! Oh, yes, indeed! That would, by gum! So I could thank God twice! It was early in the morning, just as the sun was dawning, that the pigeons were putting on a show once again. A single pigeon perched on a telegraph pole across the street. Other pigeons would soon visit, too. Then, a sudden movement nearby caught the poet's eye. Cyril the Squirrel had reappeared! How many magical minutes would he stay this time?
