Though once you were a shepherd boy Amid a flock of sheep, And sometimes shy and sometimes coy, God's eyes upon you keep. Anointed for a kingdom's sake, A prophecy till then, Your sleepy faith will start to wake, To rule a thousand men. And psalms will blossom like the rose, As on your harp you play, While Saul, your King, finds peace that grows To melt his tears away. But Saul was not the best of kings Whoever walked this Earth, And not so fond of underlings Who showed no proof of worth. Though once you were an outlaw man, And hunted day and night, You knew the Lord still had a plan, And tried to do what's right. Then came the time when royalty And even close friends die, As you maintained your loyalty Till you wept with a sigh. A kingdom waited just for you, With conquests great and small, One prophet showed the sins you do, To prove God knew them all. And since God's mercies proved sublime, Forgiveness was your aim, You prayed, 'Good Lord, forgive this time! Let me still praise Your Name! ' Thus, psalms were written and composed, To grant faith to Mankind, Beyond the day that your life closed And you were left behind. You prophesied about the Cross! And Jesus crucified! Psalm twenty-two foresaw Christ's loss! It's known how Jesus died! Psalm twenty-three is there close by, And sung in hymns today, God's mercies shown in full supply, With blessings on our way. This poem mentions the anointed King Saul, who distrusted David, but the tables were turned as David proved he would never harm the King. Once David became King, he tried to please God, but he was just another sinful man who had to pray to the Lord for forgiveness. David was a psalmist and a prophet. He is remembered because of two of his psalms: Psalm Twenty-Two and Psalm Twenty-Three. Billions of believers love Psalm Twenty-Three, and yet it is Psalm Twenty-Two that was quoted by Jesus when He was suffering on the Cross of Christ! And that is something to think about, isn't it?
