O what am I in this crude class system? ! Am I middle class or 'just' working class? I can't be upper class. I don't own land. For I was raised as lower middle class: My father was a salesman; my mother Was a teacher. Yet my grandparents were Working class. Also, I am currently Working freelance on a zero hours contract So perhaps, that makes me underclass...who knows? I've not moved forward in a straight line, Merely zigzagged around life's edges. Consequently, I have evidently Failed to rise above my parents' status, Unlike my brother who's a pharmacist And now is decidedly middle class. Although there's always someone Who will invariably label me, I'd like to think that I belong to none Of the classes. Indeed, it is a weight Off my shoulders. I'm free to be me and not A social climber. I'm certainly a failure Economically, but culturally successful. Anyway, I think that the entire class system Is absurd. It serves no real purpose, but to Imprison people and keeps them in a state Of false consciousness. Indeed, it should now Be relegated to the annals of History. All you Royalist flatters; All you dream killers and vain glorious Opponents of bold Jeremy Corbyn And his radical socialism, Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
