O these candle- lit occasions place
Things into their proper perspective! They
Seem to delineate mortality.
Indeed, I would go so far as to say
That they put us back in touch with our own
Humanity. Alas, many are now
So caught up in modern predicaments
That they have no time to spend in churches,
Mosques or temples across this troubled land.
O I watch all the people come and go
In a frenzied manner from pole to pole.
They never scratch the surface of their souls.
Yet so few are humble in observance;
In quiet contemplation of divine ways.
