Sonnet: Excess Is Bad

Oh, how much food can man ingest a day? When excess spells disease, shortens lifespan! How much of drink can he consume en way? When lips are no more parched and thirst leaves man! How much of luxury can man enjoy? When pain threshold is falling day by day! How much of sex can fill man’s heart with joy? When lust unleashed, he cannot keep at bay! How much desire can man satisfy? For, time is short and vices strangle him! How much of sins must man commit to die? And make his life on Earth and Heaven dim. Good deeds and virtues, man must multiply! Cost of the berth for Soul with One most High. 5-23-2002 by Dr John Celes
