Sonnet: Lucre's Greed

When money's mound becomes a mountain range, And human mind afills with immense greed, The heart of man away from God will change, As thought turns mammoth tree from evil seed! Within such human hearts, there burns a flame That higher grows and decimates brethren; Like wild a fire, it knows not whence it came, But lets loose hell on earth that was heaven! Money beyond limits is evil pure; It turns to wealth ill-gotten, stacked up high, Denying common diseases, a cure, As vices breed until the soul must die! Money although does lots of good on earth, Too much offsets them all to cause false mirth! Copyright by Dr John Celes 31-10-2020
