On front of neck, there sits a butterfly – The ductless gland first formed within the womb! In others few, it may elsewhere alight; And rarely, it may never form at all. The butterfly is richly blessed with blood; Enlarged, it gives the neck, a ghastly sight; Two hormones, it secretes which cells all need; When less or more, one gets symptoms and signs. The hormones make the brain and bones to grow; If deficient, the child has low IQ; Severe deficiency can lead to death; Replacing hormones early, makes one well. When hormones’ high, person is quite unwell; Both eyes protrude, hands tremble, heart is fast; Though hunger’s ravenous, the person melts; She sweats a lot and loves a cooler clime. With lesser hormones, women gain much weight; The bowels fail to move and menses’ high; Heart’s slow; skin’s cool and hair is sparse and dry; The lady cannot bear the winter’s cold. A normal butterfly sits in its place, unseen; It keeps the body, mind both healthy, fit. Fondly dedicated to faculty of depts.
