Just because we
waited for over
fifteen-hundred
years for this
exacting purification
to be detailed
and described
as ‘The Dark Night of the Soul'
by St John of the Cross,
does not mean
that it was not a
reality for the
first spiritual travellers.
We know without
a shadow of a doubt
that it was part of
their journey, for
without such a
purification they
could not have
been united with Christ.
