God answers by fire Elijah proclaimed his faith to prophets of Baal: "put your offerings on the wood but light no fire under it. Elijah challenged the prophets. Pray to your God Baal. In fact, in Exodus 24, God appeared as a consuming fire, a familiar verse quoted again in Hebrews 12: 29 - "our God is a consuming fire.")
