Through the Spirit,
we acquire a likeness
to God; indeed, we attain
what is beyond our most
sublime aspirations.
We become God.
Yet the forbidden fruit
and the desire to be like
gods back in the final
days of Eden points
to one unassailable truth
of the Faith: our first
parents' sin consisted
in reaching for their
eternal destiny
being like God
butwithout God,
before God, and not
in accordance with God.
