Georges Lemaitre, the Belgian Priest was the first
To suggest the ‘Big Bang Theory' in 1920.
He put forward the idea that the Universe
Behaved like a single ‘Primeval Atom'!
Max Planck, Nobel Prize winner- Germany Physicist, who
Revealed that the universe was older than earlier thought,
Formulated the wavelength spectrum named as
'Planck's Law' that predicted the intensity of the radiation!
The question that continuously haunts the scientists is
What would happen if there is a radiation in the universe?
Einstein's ‘General Relativity' had pointed out
That the gravity affects the fabric of space time.
Einstein discerned that massive objects caused a distortion.
A fine example was the experiment conducted
Of a basket ball and a marble on a trampoline and
How they reacted and behaved differently.
An interesting story of research scientists!
Arnos Penzias and Robert Wilson of Bell Labs,
Detected a problem in their radio telescope,
While experimenting to find signals
That had a wavelength of a few centimeters.
It was making an irritating hissing sound.
Penzias and Wilson assumed that the hissing
Sound must be due to pigeon droppings.
Penzias and Wilson cleaned their radio telescope
But then, the infuriating sound continued.
Funnily enough, during the same time, Bob Dicke
With his students-Wilkinson and Peebles, were busy too,
Working together, to trace some radiation in the universe.
That's when Penzias and Wilson reached out to Bob Dicke.
Always polite and helpful, Dicke explained to them that the
Hiss must be remnant or radiation left over from the Big Bang.
Penzias and Wilson were delighted with this discovery.
They wrote an article and were the first to publish
Their findings in the Astrophysical Journal.
Dicke and Peebles wrote the next article in the same Journal-
Entitled - 'Cosmic Blackbody Radiation'!
Dicke based his findings on Einstein Theory of General Relativity
To show that the radiation from the Big Bang would have
Settled down enough to have a temperature of about 3 Kelvin.
Penzias and Wilson won the Nobel prize in Physics in 1978.
Dicke who worked relentlessly on various missions conducting
So many experiments and tests to prove the Theory of Relativity,
Received no award or prize for his work!
I wonder, sometimes, if there is justice in this world?
The man who worked so hard to find a solution to theories
Merely watched others carrying away bouquets and rewards,
While he stood empty handed unrecognized!
Unfair world, isn't it?
