Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born on November 12, 1815 in Johnstown, New York. She attended Troy Female Seminary and served as president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association from 1890 until 1892. While committed to the women’s suffrage movement, she opposed the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments. Stanton wrote The Woman's Bible (1895), Solitude of Self (1892), and the first three volumes of History of Woman Suffrage (Susan B. Anthony, 1881), among others. She died on October 26, 1902 in New York City.
