A Duhallow Beauty

I remember her when her hair was light brown When she was a young convent flower girl in Millstreet Town At a Corpus Christi procession on a Summer Sunday long gone Only memories of what was today living on With other convent going young school girls she looked innocent and sweet The petals from their baskets of flowers they kissed and tossed on the street In their white communion dresses in their lives early Spring The innocence of youth is such a beautiful thing She grew into a beautiful young woman but sad for to say In Millstreet she was one who did not choose to stay The wanderlust in her for a Land far away Her future to be in the U S of A Near the prime of her life a beauty to behold She left her home Parish as a nineteen year old The former convent flower girl so beautiful yet free of conceit A joy for to know of and a pleasure to meet A Duhallow beauty of the distant past On looking back the Seasons time did go so fast And only the memories with me now remain Of one i knew of but will not meet again.
