A War Veteran

What hair he has left on his head it is whiter than gray As old as Methulesah as some are known to say He looks rather gummy without his false teeth Yet nicer than him one could not wish to meet Well into his eighties and very much alive The killing fields of Europe he did survive A World war 2 hero and survivor his type are now rare As a young man he was one not lacking in dare Some of his great grandchildren in their late teens his wife is long dead Yet he's one who seldom talks of the past he likes to look ahead He'd like for to live for as long as he can And die in his sleep as a very old man From the most of those he grew up with the breath of life gone But with the battle of life he keeps battling on.
