An Evening In Late March

The crickets are singing to tell us of rain And water from the pipe from the roof guttering gurgles in the stormwater drain The male brush tail possum is growling on the blackwood tree For to mate with a female he must own territory The sky is dark above the old country town And the crickets sing on as the rain drizzles down The drumming of the raindrops on the roof galvanize And in the dark Parkland the boobook owl cries The singing crickets in the backyard hedgerow I hear On a rainy night in late March in the Fall of the year Sometimes they even sing in the lamp of the day Nature about her has a mysterious way On the galvanize roof the pitter patter of rain And the crickets do sing in the hedgerow again.
