She was known to be shy and she seldom went outside
She stayed up in her room and she kept herself ahide
She stayed up in her room and she worked hard all the time
And she introduced to literature a different sort of rhyme.
She stayed up in her room and she led a lonely life
And she did not have a man and she was nobody's wife
She was nobody's wife and she took no others name
But her creations still live on and her verses brought her fame.
She was a gentle soul and she always dressed in white
Did not have many friends and she loved the peace and quiet,
She stayed up in her room and she wrote and wrote and wrote
And her verses still live on and she was a major poet.
She wrote nearly eighteen hundred poems and her genius still survive
Yet only two of her poems published whilst she was alive
And now one of America's greatest poets is Emily Dickinson
And her name is now well known and her fame well earned and won.
