Fun And Games

In the sandpit field we often watched in the afternoon of sunday Our renowned juggler Matty Owen give his juggling display We marvelled at his dexterity how wonderful we cried But we could never juggle with stones though hard enough we tried. In the sandpit field of Matty Owen a mile west of Millstreet On sunny summer sunday afternoons we often used to meet For an hour or two of fun and games I was twelve or thirteen And Matty Owen at juggling stones the best we'd ever seen. Dan Sullivan was often there for to display his water divining skill And to watch the divining stick turn between his hands to us was such a thrill He had the gift of finding spring wells many feet beneath the ground And under where the stick turned between his hands spring water could be found. In the threshing days west of Millstreet Town in the farm yards in the Fall When the threshing was done an hour of fun I readily can recall The cheer went up for Matty Owen for a juggling display And though the juggler now lay with the dead the memories with me stay. Of when we met in the sandpit field on sunday afternoon For an hour or two of fun and games the Season passed too soon And though that was many years ago and many miles away The juggler and the diviner still alive in me today.
