From forested country they never venture far They are birds one sees often where many trees are And they are quite familiar to me On the borders of woods them i often does see In a cup shaped nest of bark and grass in a tree hollow the female bird lay Two to four brown dotted eggs of white to pale gray They live on insects and slugs and flies and bees That they find on the ground and on low branches of trees Of human kind wary but not all that shy Gray shrike thrushes the name that they are known by You see and hear them once you never again get them wrong They have such a beautiful flute like whistling song From wooded places never that far away They are birds i see often though not very day.
