I Sing Not

I sing not of the celebrated I sing of the unsung And I sing not of the legends in the days when I was young I sing of the quiet achievers my toasting glass to them I raise Of every unsung hero or heroine I'll gladly sing their praise I sing not of the billionaire or the very wealthy few Many do sing their praises so tell us something new Your heroes and heroines are celebrities and that does suit me fine But you can have your heroes though your heroes are not mine, I sing not of the people we read about and hear of every day I leave others to sing their praises and their admiration to them to pay I sing of the humanitarians who to help others go out of their way For their unselfishness they deserve more recognition that would be fair to say Than singing of the praises of the legends old and young I would far prefer to sing of the honourable unsung.
