In life as we know there is no guarantee
That the teenager will outlive an old bloke like me
The Reaper on our lives has the final say
And for all of us there is a last night and day.
The monarch or president mere mortals just like you and I
In some future moment they are destined to die
They too will decay like the flowers of the Fall
There is a last night and last day for us all.
People come and go but the World does go on
And long after the breath of life from us has gone
The wildflowers of Nature will bloom in the Spring
And the birds in the woods and groves will chirp and sing.
The monarch and president not above death
Of life they too destined to draw their last breath
Like the Seasons to life we come to and from go
And Nature the only Immortal of which I do know.
