It Is Only The Memories

It is only the memories today i retain Of Clara half cloaked in the gray fogs of rain And brown leaves of deciduous trees to the grass drifting down In the green countryside westwards of Millstreet Town So many beautiful places i have lived in and seen But thoughts of my first home-place remains in me evergreen Though from there in distance i live far away And i have not been physically to there for many a day In my visualizations i can hear the rill Babbling to the river down the fields by the hill When a robin is singing in the twilight gray In the calm before dark on an evening in May In a clear pool of Finnow the white river slowly swimming about Basking in the Summer sunshine the dappled brown trout A sight of natural beauty for to behold Visual memories that never does seem to grow old It is only in memory i visit Millstreet Town And on familiar old streets do walk up and down Some of those that i knew there with the deceased lay And some like me showing the wear of time's decay The past just a memory of what used to be And the future to all of us a mystery And though my thoughts often stray to the long ago That the now is all that matters happens to be so.
