Katie In Her Seventies

He sung songs of old Ireland like the 'Homes of Donegal' And an old favourite from Percy French called 'Phil the fluter's ball' And to a jig the dancers rose and danced around the floor And when he sang his goodnight song the shout went up for more. The home fields seem much nearer when the old songs are sung And legs that time had wearied had suddenly grown young And Katie in her seventies in her dress of dark green Was dancing with the best of them as if she was nineteen. With the saying 'you are only old as you feel' how can one disagree And the one who never sing or dance feels old at twenty three And Katie in her seventies light hearted and carefree She dances without tiring and none feel so young as she The daughter of an Aussie mother but she has an Irish soul For her late father came from Kerry he migrated from Listowel To Melbourne in the twenties one who loved music and song And the father in his daughter and the Celt in her is strong He sung songs of old Ireland Carrigdhoun and Galway Bay And the dancers were enjoying themselves as they danced the night away And Katie in her seventies laughed in the face of time And she danced as free and easy as those still in their prime.
