There are no flowers on Muriel's grave or headstone to mark the spot Where her bones rest forever more in death she is forgot And not one come to visit her and witness where she lay None helped her when she was alive so she doesn't need help today. She did not know if she had siblings and her friends in life so few And her mother and her father she never met or knew She was raised in an orphanage and those who knew her say That of her youth and childhood years she gave nothing away. She did not mother children and she never was a wife And she was never heard to speak of the loves of her life Gray haired and rather gentle with big blue soulful eyes She mostly kept to herself not one to socialize. She was a State registered nurse she made it her career And she took her retirement packet in her sixty fifth year And bought a two bedroom flat in a town by the sea And there she lived until the day she died at the age of seventy three. She pre paid for her burial but not for a headstone As she felt the dead for to rest in peace ought to be left alone In life she was a gentle soul without a friend or foe And not one flower placed on her grave since she died ten years ago. On Muriel's grave the weeds grow rank and flowers are never placed there And none ever come to visit and for her soul kneel in prayer She never was a mother and she never was a wife And she never once did complain though she did know the hard life.
