She was a rare beauty when young and carefree The finest in her time in old Knocknagree When i was a boy she was in her life's prime And this is going back many decades in time Wavy brown hair to her shoulders lovely to behold The memory of such beauty never grows old And eyes quite as ripe November sloes In the Spring of her life she bloomed like a rose She was a rare beauty old Knocknagree's Pride No finer in Duhallow's and Sliabh Luachra's green countryside But the lust of the wander was in her young mind Not one who was born to be stay at home kind She left Knocknagree on a morning in May And went off to live in the U S of A But time does not wait as the wise one does say She would be in her eighties if living today I see her a few times and never again But memories of her today with me remain When i was a boy she was near her life's prime And this is going back many decades in time.
