Where I Was Raised

Where I was raised people never pray for rain There always is water in the roadside drain The rivers, streams and rills often bank high do flow Yet of hunger and want there I never did know Where I was raised many people are generous and kind And any faults with them would be hard to find But the lust of the wander from there lured me away And I'm living far south of my old home today In April and May in the prime of the Spring The nest building songbirds do whistle and sing And house sparrows line with feathers their straggly nest of hay And swallows back home to breed for their seven months stay The old fields are looking lush and green again And Nature's flowers bloom in the wind and the rain.
