Your Friends Over There

You left them when you left for to live elsewhere And now they are only your friends over there The friends over there you may never more see As images fading from your memory Upon your life's journey old friendships do fade And you've changed as a person and new friendships you've made And though they retain a small place in your heart In time and in distance from them you've grown apart You've not seen them for more than two decades and in that many a day And since then you've changed as a person and so too have they And they too have forged new friendships and in life have moved on And though the past we remember the past it has gone Like them to the father of time you do bow And you only can live in the here and the now.
