Death By Diamond...

While walking on a vacant beach, miles wide, past sand-dunes built from a Clipper Tide, saw a brilliant light, winking 'gainst the grain, my eyes squinting from its heart-shaped ray. What be this twinkling speck of valentine? Could it be an Orb, some spiritual sign? It was a heart-shaped diamond, precious stone, without a circled ring to grasp its dome. A karat, yes, no more, at best, or eighty points, but nothing less. How sad, no wedding band or cage, razor sharp on a crown of blade; just a tiny, shiny diamond dot 'neath a Winter Sun... at twelve o'clock. I bent to grab the romance stone, and spiked my finger to its bone, on a sharply raised upper stud, breaking flesh to a instant stream of blood. No one, not a soul... around, not a cab nor bus nor human sound. Blue afternoon turned sunset red, moments, became long hours of dread. The bleeding, now, a sustained pour, much heavier than it was before. I 'd walked my path too far and wide, now darkness comes, I 'm left to die. Of course, I cried aloud, for help; as I could not but help myself; the only voice, an incoming tide, waving ashore, mute to my cries. Alas my final plea, a prayer to Christ, before I lay me down to die, this night! I guess they found my body when the sun rose again. Who'd have thought Death be wrapped in a beautiful gem. Alas, it's over, and though I shan't look back and weep- It's the last time I'll drink IRISH JOE before I sleep! ______________- AFTERTHOUGHT-_____________ Don't ya' just abhor a jocund climax to a darkside story?
