My New Table

My new, rustic kitchen table,
Swallows completely my turbulent state,
I feel calm like the ocean's near stillness,
As it holds its breath and waits
For the good company of a moonlit night.
I place hand painted china cups down, that catches the sunlight,
They are from my grandmother's house on Upper Leeson Street,
Now its white door and sash windows are tightly closed.
Her tender smile and my grandfather's ambition to remain solo,
I place her kindness in a Waterford Crystal bowl,
It overflows
Caressing the table with her honeyed embrace.
I find an old black and white photo
Of my mam and dad on horseback,
They trot the horses onto the woodchip gallop,
The horses break into a canter, they are forever free.
I sprinkle rose petals red, yellow and pink
Over our open hearts that give a mischievous wink.
We journey on holidays to Killarney,
The tides of seasons collide.
Mam and dad spread their happiness on my new table,
I have settled in my new home,
Time is quiet here, an even balance.
Passion is part of the earth's drive,
To console our hearts to survive,
My table is now full of hope and love,
The skies keep smiling down from the heavens above.
