Housewarming is when hosts invite
Guests to celebrate a new home,
Occasion for all to delight
As about the house all do roam.
The term 'housewarming' did come from
Days of past when houses did need
Fireplaces from which heat would come.
So firewood was required indeed.
As to what kind of gift to bring,
Each guest would bring firewood in arm,
And the hosts welcomed such a thing
To assure keeping the house warm.
With central heating, gifts for such
Did not include firewood so much.
