an unsettling night
a joyful cry of a seal
this i saw
in the middle of
a restive night
a seal licking its
infant in glee
this too i heard
a piercing wail
cracking the feverish night
as the infant breathed
its last...
followed by silence
and grieving eyes
the seal slowly slid back
into the ocean
a huge lump
didn't allow me to swallow
the remaining dark night
