I. Five things I see in twilight's tender glow: The river's dance beneath the moonlit sky, The leaves that curl when autumn winds do blow, The stars like silent watchmen shining high, And in the east, a cloud of softest blue. II. Four things I touch that tremble in my hand: The velvet petal of a blushing rose, The silken thread of sand upon the strand, The cool night air that through my fingers flows. III. Three things I hear in evening's quiet song: The whispering wind that stirs the silent pines, The gentle lapping waves that flow along, The cricket's call that mingles with the signs. IV. Two things I smell upon the night's soft breeze: The sweet, faint scent of jasmine in the air, And distant rain that lingers on the trees. V. One thing I taste, the breath of summer's fruit— The ripened peach, its nectar warm and sweet, A fleeting joy that turns a golden hue, In memory, a moment bittersweet.
