A Fine Christmas

Those old paper chains hung gaily up above, In a home that was filled with so much love, That sweet little fairy, With the worn out frock, Looked down upon us from her favourite spot. There on the tree, Those lights of many colours, Twinkled and shone like no other, And there she stood, My wonderful mother, Who melted my heart with her tender smile, Bringing the joy of christmas alive, Doing the best that she possibly could, When money was tight, But she still made it good. A childhood of dreams, That cannot be replaced, I long to see her smiling face, Gentle and loving in every way, Take me back to that fine christmas day. Jayne Louise Davies
