Tribute To The Moth

Oftentimes in writing poems I tend to glorify the ladybug…the bumble bee and, of course, the butterfly. In so doing I've ignored the moth… I thought perhaps because they fly at night might be the reason why. but haven't I written many a poem about the firefly? I imagine my reason is more of a poetic nature… The reason when it comes to moths I haven't found the time is because of that word moth…it's so hard to find a rhyme. Today I plan to correct this omission and, hopefully, open people's eyes to the beauty and importance of moths…who by the way outnumber butterflies. Moths are indicator species which means in the places that we dwell if we see a lot of moths…our ecosystem's doing well. Did you know some moths fly in the day, most have an incredibly gifted nose… and despite what many think…most moths don't eat people's clothes. And though moths might not be as colorful as butterflies…when their wings unfold the patters they reveal are a beauty and a wonder to behold. Gee…they are important to our ecosystem… they are beautiful…and they don't eat cloth. (Hey…look at that! I finally found a word that I can rhyme with moth!) . In conclusion we tend to concentrate on nature's beauty… the beauty we see in the bright sunlight… but moths are proof nature has so much beauty she also lends some to the night.
