Poet and scholar Joel Benton was born in Amenia, New York, in 1832. He is the author of Emerson as a Poet (M. F. Mansfield and A. Wessels, 1883) and In the Poe Circle (M. F. Mansfield and A. Wessels, 1899). He died in 1911.
