Always green and strong as can be,
He's armed to the teeth, the ebony tree.
Big and strong and sturdy and stout,
His fiercely armed branches, carry great clout.
An impenetrable fortress, for our avian friends,
To their protection, he gallantly trends.
All through his branches, nests do abound,
That hurricane winds, can't knock to the ground.
The last hand pulled ferry, in the United States,
Is anchored to an ebony by the Rio Grande.
For a century now, they've shared their fates,
In Los Ebanos Texas, this giant stands.
Los Ebanos means The Ebonys in Spanish.
