The Sailor And The Mermaid

Disconsolate sitting by the sea, A sailor mourned his drowned true love. Whose soul into the briny deep did flee, And he cried to God above. He poured his sorrow into the foam, Heedless of his mournful cries. There are far worst things than being alone, Underneath God's clear blue skies. Then the sea did part and out she came, The one for whom he mourned. With gills on her neck and a tail he could see, In the sea she'd been reborn. A mermaid stood before his eyes, And his grief to terror turned. And he fled emitting piercing cries, Terrified, but with his lesson learned. 11/07/10 Alton Texas
