We Danced

We danced, on a starlit night
Under the green canopy of the Elms,
And the full moon rising off in the east.
We danced to the music of the night
To Doves, and Mockingbirds, and crickets
Gently entoning their precious songs.
We danced to the beat of a million leaves
Rustling high above in the elms and the oak
And the tambourine of the ebony's pods.
We danced to the wind instruments of heaven
The southerly wind blowing gently
Through and around branches and leaves.
We danced lost in sweet oblivian to all
And to everything pursuant to the dawn
We danced, lost in each others arms.
And the night reached out and embraced us
And the full moon smiled down on us
The stars winked at us, and we danced.
