Yellow Eyes

he stared at me with his yellow eyes, honest orbs that held no lies. he wasn't scared, that I could see, As those yellow eyes, bore into me. At the top of a wash, surveying the land, he stared at me from the desert sand. Brown grey fur, in total disarray, Sniffing the crisp air, at the end of the day. Ears slightly forward catching each sound, he stood defianty, holding his ground. I moved slowly giving him room, Carefully passing him, in the desert gloom. The moon slowly rising, made it surreal, Goosebumps on my arms, all I could feel. yellow eyes never wavered, not at all, Then from far in the wild, I heard the call. yellow eyes raised his head, and answered in his way, With the moon slowly rising at the end of day. Then he looked at me, one final time, And with no further notice, turned on a dime. I could see him lopping to the far blue hills, my body trembling, with new found thrills. As he disappeared in the pale moon light, I waved at yellow eyes, sweet child of the night. 6/20/12 Alton Texas
