Ambushed Into Love

What started as a game Has turned into something real. The smiles, the flirts, the kisses, though of humble upbringings, have taken root - deep. The soils of my heart are open. Having seen the birth and death of much love It has become periodic in its nature. (But the surface always appears rich.) Many loves quickly germinate But death is their fate. For although my heart is fertile, There are gaps, long stretches of desert that support nothing, but death. To survive, Love's will must be strong: For many days go with no nourishment or hope. I know myself. The walls, the pushing. Loving me is a challenge. It's not easy – it tires the mind and body. (Only the faithful could make it.) Yet somehow, under the cloak of friendship The initial walls were mounted – you were inside. The defenses were torn, Ripped-up and set ablaze. (Pushing became impossible.) You took what was bare And made it flourish. Your marked is stamped, And your foundation lies deep. I am scared, scared... Because I think, I just might love you… Copyright © 2008 Leslie Alexis
