Destra

There were prairie birds And dragonflies, Waving ‘hello! ’ So I said no goodbyes. There were hyacinths And genistras - Perfect with roses in bouquet; I gave them to Destra. Now Destra was no mere damsel; She was plump, plum, And perfect too. There are not many like her, She is one of two. It is Destra and Eve You’d have to see to believe none is seen as pure as these two, not three, not four. It is Destra and me In this great wilder-land no other man. I tried my best to be strong But her hair was so long It was long enough to bind me tight And keep me bound all night. Her look was so serene Her hair like flowing ravines Her eyes were the deep green Of a young apple’s skin Her voice that of the Seraphims In melody with Cherubims A sway of Heaven on earth She filled my heart with mirth. Her dress, like the fairies Opens like a butterfly’s wing in flight The color's she picked from the rainbow She looked like an angel in the meadows She moved as gracefully as the swans In her presence I soar with the pelicans I go with winds to heavenly heights Her eyes glitter in starry lights I never thought I’d find my universe, I never thought it’d be made of just the two of us. We were one in land and one in love Dressed in suits like the turtle dove Akin to the wear of the young marsupials I moved with her like a kangaroo in its mother‘s pouch Our rhythm matched only by that of the pulse Pressed against each other thumping in heartbeat In the cool of the evening we were warm in love’s heat I shone the apples of her land gently with the tip of my fingers Then I looked at them ‘beautiful’ is the sight that lingers Even as I nibbled, my eyes returned to their maker As the taste of satisfaction dripped from me In breathless speech I whispered, ’ Te amo.’ Copyright © 2009 Leslie Alexis
