I found the chess; the one we thought was lost; Found in winter, it was covered with frost. We thought it lost. I found it surprisingly, Down by the cove; beside the gushing sea. It surprised me. The markings were the best, Upon the chess were crowns; captain’s request. Only the best; for nothing else would do, It was the same with members of the crew. The best alone would do. O and within, I found ten-year-old foils and rusty tin, I found old tin within. I was the fool, I damned whoever thought that this was cool. I was the fool; to think that I would own Gold, platinum, diamond – the precious stone. Copyright © 2010 Leslie Alexis
