The Moon (Sapphics)

Look at how she stands on her legs in the sky, Her gray color radiating strong each night -The moon, let’s pause and think of the many ways That she has blessed men. Each day she gives unto us ebb and flood tides, Her going far or drawing nigh causing seas To respond, and fishermen to know when Best to cast their nets. Moreover, she stands as mother to the stars, Her light, a mild embrace spanning the heavens, Shading her own when it needs be done, and then Gives them chance to shine. The moon is meek; knowing she is not supreme In the sky, camouflages in the sunlight, Awaits her glorious turn, and even then Gladly she shares. Copyright © 2010 Leslie Alexis
