Luis Lloréns Torres, born on May 14, 1876, in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, was a poet, playwright, and politician. He advocated for the independence of Puerto Rico. In 1913, he founded and led the influential journal Revista de las Antillas. His major works include La canción de las Antillas y otros poemas [Song of the Antilles and Other Poems], originally published in 1929, and Sonetos sinfónicos [Symphonic Sonnets], published in 1914. Lloréns Torres died on June 16, 1944.
