Seven Ages Requiem

Someone once famously said
Man had seven ages
This could certainly be said
of Woman, or any living thing
a tree, a fish, a muskrat
or deer
Dear we hold the nation which too
has seven ages and
returns to the first to die
Countries, states, empires and alliances
come and go each in their turn
but the world is not the stag
stage, rather- stage.
Maybe it is.
it is the farm that thrives on
the compost of what starts
(Nation) building blocks
budding- an idea, a belief, a faith
that gives way to a system
that at first despises the thought of
hard work, labour, sacrifice that lies ahead
only to find resolve and determination
right before talking itself into
blind selfishness, violence, aggression
that stamps out everything before
fears of retribution come alive
and that's just to announce the age of
moderation, consideration,
reconciliation and forgiveness
These arise and become the currency
presented to others only to find
redeemable- redemption-in ridicule,
scorn and loathing. At last
there's the return to values
- some old some new-
to new ideas or old ideas, chaotic visions,
fantasies, wishes, aspirations,
frantic delusional take me seriously
thoughts, beliefs, that promise to fix,
this time strangely, sans the fire,
all that went wrong, all that paved
the march, to the pyre.
